BWT bestdemin PLUS Demineralisation Cartridge

0
BWT bestdemin PLUS is a professional multi-stage cartridge designed for the production of highly demineralised water. Its core treatment stage uses a mixed-bed ion exchanger, which removes dissolved cations and anions from the incoming water and substantially reduces conductivity. BWT positions the system specifically for applications where conventional filtration is not sufficient and very low mineral content is required.
The cartridge is particularly suitable as a final polishing stage after reverse osmosis. RO removes the majority of dissolved salts, while bestdemin PLUS removes much of the remaining ionic content, allowing significantly lower conductivity to be achieved than with reverse osmosis alone.
Typical applications include laboratories, dental clinics, medical and sterilisation equipment, autoclaves, steam generators and other technical systems requiring demineralised water. BWT also lists bestdemin PLUS among its professional solutions for medical and technical high-purity water applications.
Unlike remineralisation cartridges such as bestmin PREMIUM or bestaqua PREMIUM, bestdemin PLUS performs the opposite function. It is designed to remove residual minerals and ions, rather than add them back into the water.

Professional Demineralisation

What BWT bestdemin PLUS Does

BWT bestdemin PLUS is a professional multi-stage cartridge designed to produce highly demineralised water for laboratories, medical and dental applications, sterilisation equipment and technical systems. Its core treatment stage uses mixed-bed ion exchange to remove dissolved salts and significantly reduce water conductivity.

01

Mixed-Bed Demineralisation

A mixed-bed ion exchanger removes dissolved cations and anions, producing water with very low mineral content for applications where conventional filtration is not sufficient.

02

Multi-Stage Filtration

Particle pre-filtration, activated carbon and final fine filtration work together with the ion-exchange stage to provide comprehensive water treatment in one cartridge.

03

Designed for Technical & Medical Use

Suitable for laboratories, dental clinics, sterilisation systems, steam generators and other professional equipment requiring demineralised water.

How It Works

How BWT bestdemin PLUS Works

bestdemin PLUS combines four treatment stages inside one cartridge: particle filtration, mixed-bed ion exchange, activated-carbon treatment and final fine filtration.

1

Particle Pre-Filtration

The first stage separates coarse particles such as sand and rust, protecting the downstream treatment media.

2

Mixed-Bed Ion Exchange

The central treatment stage removes dissolved salts by exchanging both positively and negatively charged ions, producing highly demineralised water.

3

Carbon & Fine Filtration

Activated carbon reduces chlorine, organic substances and unwanted taste or odour, while the final fine filter separates remaining suspended particles.

Applications

Designed for Professional Demineralised Water Applications

BWT bestdemin PLUS is intended for professional environments where dissolved minerals can affect processes, leave residues or damage steam-generating equipment.

01

Laboratories

Suitable for preparation of reagents and residue-free cleaning of compatible laboratory equipment where low-mineral water is required.

02

Dental Clinics

Demineralised water can be used for compatible dental sterilisation systems and equipment that requires water with very low dissolved salt content.

03

Medical Sterilisers

Designed for steam sterilisation applications where dissolved salts can cause deposits inside autoclaves and steam-generating components.

04

Industrial Steam Generators

Suitable for compatible steam-generation equipment where demineralised water helps prevent mineral deposits and residue.

05

Professional Steam Ironing

Helps protect professional steam ironing equipment in laundries from salt deposits caused by conventional mains water.

06

Technical Applications

Can be used in compatible technical processes and equipment requiring consistently demineralised water with low conductivity.

Demineralised Water Quality Depends on the Application

BWT bestdemin PLUS is designed to produce fully demineralised water from suitable drinking water. The achievable cartridge capacity depends strongly on the conductivity of the incoming water and the required final conductivity.

For applications with higher water consumption, the cartridge can also be used downstream of reverse osmosis. In this configuration, RO removes most dissolved salts first and bestdemin PLUS performs the final demineralisation stage.

* Cartridge capacity varies with incoming water conductivity, flow rate and the required final conductivity. Suitability for medical, dental or laboratory equipment should always be checked against the water-quality requirements specified by the equipment manufacturer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Key questions about BWT bestdemin PLUS and professional production of demineralised water.

What is BWT bestdemin PLUS?

+

BWT bestdemin PLUS is a professional multi-stage cartridge for producing demineralised water. Its central mixed-bed ion-exchange stage removes dissolved cations and anions from the incoming water.

What is mixed-bed ion exchange?

+

Mixed-bed ion exchange combines cation and anion exchange resins in one treatment stage. Together they remove positively and negatively charged dissolved ions, significantly reducing the mineral content and conductivity of the water.

Can bestdemin PLUS be used in dental clinics?

+

Yes. BWT specifically identifies steam sterilisation in medicine and dentistry as one of the intended applications for bestdemin PLUS. The exact water-quality requirement of the connected equipment should still be verified.

Is bestdemin PLUS suitable for autoclaves?

+

Yes. Demineralised water is particularly useful in steam sterilisation because removing dissolved salts helps prevent mineral deposits inside autoclaves and steam generators.

Can BWT bestdemin PLUS be used in laboratories?

+

Yes. BWT lists laboratory use among the intended applications, including preparation of reagents and residue-free cleaning of compatible laboratory equipment.

Does bestdemin PLUS require reverse osmosis?

+

Not necessarily. BWT bestdemin PLUS can treat suitable drinking water directly. However, reverse osmosis can be installed upstream when higher capacity is required or when reducing the ionic load before the mixed-bed cartridge is beneficial.

Does bestdemin PLUS contain activated carbon?

+

Yes. In addition to mixed-bed ion exchange, the cartridge includes activated-carbon treatment designed to reduce chlorine, organic substances and unwanted taste or odour.

Does the cartridge also filter particles?

+

Yes. A particle pre-filter removes coarse contaminants such as sand and rust, while a final fine-filter stage separates smaller suspended particles.

What is the maximum flow rate?

+

BWT specifies a maximum flow rate of 100 litres per hour for the current V, M and XL bestdemin PLUS cartridges.

How often should bestdemin PLUS be replaced?

+

BWT recommends regular replacement after approximately six months and no later than twelve months, or earlier if the cartridge capacity has been reached.

Is demineralised water the same as distilled water?

+

No. Both processes produce water with very low mineral content, but they use different treatment methods. bestdemin PLUS uses ion exchange, while distilled water is produced by evaporation and condensation. The required water specification should always be checked for the intended equipment or process.
